So I had the good fortune of getting down to Day 1 of Oz Comic Con Perth 2016 with my buddy Simon Tubey Photography. He’s really good and an avid collector of all things photographic.
I didn’t actually take half as many photos as I wanted to as I was quite wrapped up in chatting with other cosplayers, and having my own photos taken (oh, I should mention was Spiderman… again). However, I managed to snag a few half decent ones which I posted up on Facebook and here.
Leon, above, is a great cosplayer and a really top guy. He’s always willing to get out and do some cool things in the name of his character. I’ve had the pleasure of shooting his Wolverine and Punisher before, both of which I was very happy with the result. I’m always impressed with his commitment to his art. All his items are self-made!
Something great about this year’s Oz Comic Con was the ‘Cosplayer Central’ set up they had in the midst of the convention. Here were specific areas set out for cosplayers to pose, singularly or as a group, in front of elaborate backgrounds pertinent to their characters. So the Batgirl and Ivy group managed to get a few shots in front of what could easily be a run down Gotham City. The Cospladies below, in their WoW garb, also found a backdrop suited to their cosplay.
Another gem I met at the con was Ellie McNeil, who was dressed as SpiderGwen, a character I’ve been meaning to photograph for quite some time! I have a specific idea in mind involving building ledges, cityscapes and stairwells. Once uni is over for the semester, pending a possible trip to Mongolia, I’m hoping to link up with Ellie for a shoot.
Now the preparation for Supanova begins!
